中国、宋時代の政治家・司馬温公が、かめにはまった子供をかめを割って助けた
という物語をモチーフに、17世紀末日本の有田で絵皿が作られました。
18世紀になり、ヨーロッパでも磁器が作られることができるようになると
マイセン、チェルシー、ウィーンなどの窯がそのモチーフをまねて写し作ったものです。
本品は、オーストリア・ウィーン窯のもので、ウィーン窯独特のデフォルメされた味わいがあります。
まさにミュージアム・ピースであります。擦れはありますが、コンディションは大変に良いものです。

Painting is based on the old tale of Shiba Onkoh, the 11th century’s Chinese statesman.
In his childhood, he broke a valuable pot to rescue the child who fell into it.
Firstly Japanese ceramic Arita made Shiba Onkoh plates in the 17th century.
After it had become possible to make ceramics in Europe in the 18th century,
they tried to copy oriental ceramics’ motifs.
This is the very museum piece, just a little bit rubbed but still very nice condition.
